Ken Brogden Ltd were asked to work with Ashton Gardens of St Anne’s on the Sea on a listed project funded by English Heritage.
Ashton Gardens is a Grade II listed area of natural beauty located in Lytham St Anne’s and is currently undergoing a series of works that will renovate the picturesque space by taking inspiration from the original 1874 Garden design.
The Garden is a focal point of the small town in the Fylde district of Lancashire and has been one of the areas most attractive features, enjoyed by the entire community, for many years. Because of its notable significance within the town, the Garden development received a grant from Heritage Lottery Fund of £1,436,000 which will significantly contribute to the total project cost of an estimated £2m.
Abstract taken from Premier Construction Magazine, Vol 13, Issue 3:
Ken Brogden Ltd is a small family run general welding, fabrication and blacksmith business and has worked in close partnership with Maysand Ltd for a number of years.
Ken Brogden Ltd began on the Ashton Gardens project with a basic architect drawing which depicted original railings and requested the production of a sample for inspection. The company then explored various fabrication techniques, material sections and material sizes to achieve a likeness to the original product.
After spending significant time on an initial sample, Jason Steinbach from Ken Brogden Ltd presented the product to Maysand, the architects, the local council and English Heritage which was approved and highlighted the care and attention to detail that had gone into producing it.
The railings were then fabricated on a large scale and were installed into pockets formed in the copingstones with lead to copy how they were originally fixed.
Once completed, the job that had been done incited immense pride from Jason Stienbach, and Ken Brogden Ltd sincerely hopes that the people of Lytham enjoy the gardens as much as the company enjoyed playing their part in their construction.
